Jose Alvares is a top graduate from a law school in Portugal who started his career in Macau after a brief stint in London. After half a decade with a renowned firm, he established his own law practice with Berkeley educated engineer turned lawyer Barry Cheong. Jose maintains a general practice though with a corporate focus, namely in the banking and gaming sectors, even though he acts in numerous civil litigations. Jose is an active member in the community (both Macau and Hong Kong), including the Lawyers’ Association (namely as a member of the Ethics Board and operational committees under the Board of Directors), member (observer status) of the Funding Committee of Oxfam HK, local chambers of commerce, and others. He participates in several thought provoking conferences and is a newspaper columnist. He has recently won a gold medal in the category of new talent by the Macau Business Awards and has been labeled as a “rising star” by the Bulletin of the Hong Kong Gen. Chamber of Commerce.
